Thank to Brian Feagans for the invitation. Although we have different backgrounds, we have a common concern; U of M football team is not winning as we want to. Tom Brady, the quarterback is doing better and Brian and my son Jimmy will be happier. My son Jimmy goes to that school in Ann Arbor, studying architecture.

I was asked to talk about Asian American immigrant¡¯s assimilation.

Although assimilation may seem to be a very personal and individual decision, as we shall examine, there can be many historical, socioeconomic, and sociological factors that can directly or indirectly influence this decision. Just as there is a wide range of experiences and circumstances within the Asian American population, so too can there be many different, overlapping, and simultaneous forms of ethnic identity among Asian Americans.

To me, it was very hard to put the Korean flag down and hoist American flag at my house and Pledge of Allegiance. We struggle before become American.

It is so uncomfortable! But I had to do it because I didn¡¯t come to the US to be comfortable. I want to =utilize the given values for the better future of America who provide me the opportunity to make my dream come true.

To answer the question; are Asian immigrants assimilating as Americans?

The answer is yes and no. I would say people making decisions and prioritize their life goal by bigger incentives and some put assimilation as one of top priority, I am one of them

and there are Asian immigrants don¡¯t recognize the assimilation is important.

Besides, most of immigrants from Asia are having more difficult time to assimilate than immigrants from European countries because uncomfortable with the following reasons;

    1. Have Asian appearances
    2. Language problem
    3. Different cultural background
    4. We are foreign born persons, not foreigners or visitors
    5. Passive people:
    6. Values American s of Asian Ancestry brought to this country
    7. Model Minority image
    8. Some think Asian immigrants are more patriotic to the former country
    9. Some realize that Asian immigrants were abused as forced laborers and as treason
    10. Dissatisfy with the job situation as there are many blue color workers have college degree but staying in the job because there are no other options due to language problem

Although we voluntarily immigrated to the US, Asian immigrants perceive the whites and blacks own the US.

Asian immigrants will take longer time to assimilate, may be three generations.

The third generations of immigrants will not have choice like the first generation on the dependency of the former countries. Many first generations still maintain the contacts in their former countries, do business together or exchange visits. The third generations may not have that. Then they will focus on America not like their ancestries.
There are contributions Asian immigrants making for America

    1. Diligent work ethics
    2. Better studying attitudes
    3. More people worship at church
    4. Habits of saving
    5. Stimulate the neighbors and coworkers

More obstacles lie with the natives. Most of them don¡¯t want to accept Asian immigrants as a part of the community.
